Asheville's Hidden Gem

Lake Powhatan

A beautiful hidden gem in Asheville, NC.  Perfect for a hike, fishing, camping, and an afternoon swim.  On Saturday my husband, kids, and I had planned on driving up the parkway when we were disappointed to find it was closed, so we headed down Brevard Road and found the signs for Lake Powhatan.  We followed the signs and were surprised to find this hidden gem located behind the Arboretum.  Granted it was a chilly day and still much too early in spring for all the beautiful green trees but we still enjoyed a very peaceful hike around the lake.  There are multiple trails for hiking, a pier for fishing, and numerous campsites.  We are looking forward to returning this summer.  There is a charge for swimming and of course camping but well worth it for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
