Jennifer Lee of Jenndalyn
Tell me about yourself:
My name is Jennifer Lee and I live in Columbus, Ohio. Aside from making art, I also enjoy traveling, being outdoors, snowboarding, TV shows about ghosts, and slushies.
How did you get started? When did you discover you were an artist?
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. When I was little I love drawing mazes, imaginary worlds, and fancily-dressed people. I majored in art in college but did not consider it a realistic career option until my late 20's, when I ditched the 9-5 world to follow my passion.
What mediums do you work in?
All of them! I am insanely indecisive, so mixed media is perfect for me. I love drawing and painting traditionally, then adding collage, paint splatters, ink smears...pretty much anything within my reach :)
What is your favorite thing to create?
I love creating portraits with realistic faces, either in ink or pencil, then adding all sorts of embellishments to them: cut out flowers, lace, doilies...the transformation process it takes on is so much fun.
Do you sell anywhere else besides etsy?
I also sell on Society6: iPhone cases, pillows, laptop skins, etc.

Have you had good luck selling on etsy?
I am very thankful to have amazing luck with etsy. I listed my first items on July 29, 2012 (my shop had been open for a couple years by then but had sat empty) and literally withing seconds I had an order for three prints. I do have my slow days, buy my shop has been steadily gaining momentum for almost a year now!
Is this your full time job or do you have a full time day job and just create on the side?
I am overjoyed to be able to say Etsy is my full-time job. I opened my shop on July 29, put in my notice at my 9-5 dreadful office job on August 3, left on September 7 and have not looked back since?
What inspires you and your work?
Would it be ridiculous to say everything?? I get inspired by small things, little miracles. Things that a lot of people probably don't pay attention to. The way the leaves on a tree move in the breeze. Taking long walks and just noticing everything. I love the idea that we are all part of something huge and beautiful and significant.
Do you have any word of wisdom or encouragement for those starting out?
Do not give up! Have a positive outlook at all times, but also be realistic that you are going to have to work like a boss to make things happen. Utilize social media in every way you possibly can to get your name out there. And always be proud of what you do :)
My favorite quote:
"No one lights a lamp in order to hide it behind the door: the purpose of light is to create more light to open people's eyes, to reveal the marvels around." - Paolo Coelho
